about

The song is a criticism of the idea that we can't acknowledge the racial or cultural differences of minorities. Pretending to be “colourblind,” because it's politically correct becomes an excuse to ignore inequality. The lyrics are specifically about race, but the concept applies to any minority or any group of people who are not being treated as equals. If we are blind to the problems that exist, we’ll never work toward solving them.

- Joe

lyrics

This is dedicated to all of you race deniers. Who do you think you are?
Just like when models declare that looks don't matter,
who would believe it by far?

Don't say you're colourblind. Out of sight out of mind.
No, don't be colourblind. There's things to see.
Cause if you're colourblind and in that frame of mind, then you will never find reality.

"I don't see color," is a lie and you know it is. Spare me the self-righteous jive.
I don't pretend we survive the same experiences. We have a different life.

Don't say you're colourblind. Out of sight out of mind.
No, don't be colourblind. There's things to see.
Cause if you're colourblind and in that frame of mind, then you will never find reality.

Ah, yeah!
Mulatto is working overtime, trying to find his place!
Mulatto is working overtime, trying to find his way!
Mulatto is working overtime, finding his place.

When you're colourblind things are out of sight,
in that frame of mind... when you're colourblind.
